Technical Info:

Probe Personal Lubricant is a water-based, water-soluble personal lubricant compounded of three ingredients dissolved in deionized water. It is condom compatible and safe for vaginal, oral, and rectal use. In physical appearance it is a colorless, translucent, highly viscoelastic fluid with very slight taste and odor. Probe lubricant contains no perfumes or colorants and is preserved by Grapefruit Seed Extract, which acts as both an anti-microbial and anti-fungal agent. Probe lubricant is not sterile and contains no Nonoxynol-9. It is pH neutral, non-toxic, and safe to swallow. Probe lubricant supplements the body's natural lubrication, alleviates vaginal dryness and enhances sexual pleasure.

Probe personal lubricant products are manufactured in a licensed pharmaceutical laboratory. They must pass rigorous physical and microbiological tests during production and before distribution. The current expiration date for Probe lubricant is (3) years from date of manufacture.

Probe lubricant conforms to applicable sections of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act. These laws may be examined in the Code of Federal Regulations (21 CFR). Probe lubricant is an FDA regulated Class II Medical Device (21 CFR 884.5300). Probe lubricant products are in conformity with the provisions of EC Council Directive 93/42/EEC and bear the CE mark. Following is a summary of test results for Probe lubricant, as reported by independent laboratories:

Preservative Challenge <10 counts/ml (C. albicans, E. coli, P. aeruginosa, A. niger, S. aureus)
Physical Properties pH = 5.68 - 7.09 / Specific Gravity 0.990 - 1.010 / Chloride <.2ppm

Approximate component concentrations in Probe lubricant are as follows:

Deionized Water > 90% - solvent/vehicle
Glycerin (Vegetable) < 10% - emollient/moisturizer
Polyethylene Oxide < 1% - hi-slip non-ionic polymer
Grapefruit Seed Extract < .1% - antimicrobial / antifungal

The glycerin used in Probe is a minimum of USP 99.5% and derived solely from vegetable oils. The polyethylene oxide used in Probe is NF grade suitable for use in food/beverage applications. The grapefruit seed extract used in Probe is non-adulterated and manufactured in the United States.

Studies show that increased lubricant osmolality is related to increased mucosal irritation and to tissue damage. Recent independent tests of several dozen personal lubricants reveal that, other than the test controls, only Probe lubricant was not an osmolal extreme. In distribution since 1981, Probe personal lubricant has seen use by a number of State, County and City health departments. It is also found in hospitals, private practices and sexual health clinics throughout the nation.
